understory
A cozy little cafe opened recently in downtown Toronto named Understory. It's owned by a Trans couple so I decided to check it out last week. I thought the decor, atmosphere, and general vibe was very welcoming. Walking inside, I had the same feeling as if I was entering a good friend's kitchen/living room. I ordered a soy london fog latte, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a chocolate chip cookie. Both were very good but I wish they had more options for dairy free sandwiches other than the one vegan option. It didn't sound very appetizing to me so I risked having cheese which was a very bad idea. Next time I'll either try the vegan option or see if they can remove the cheese from the other sandwiches. I also wish the cafe had a bigger space because it felt a little cramped inside and there aren't many options for seating. I understand that rent is expensive though so I hope they're successful enough to expand or move to a bigger space in the future. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and I see myself coming back whenever I'm around the area.
