max is here,

subway pigeon

Last night at about 11pm a pigeon boarded the eastbound line 2. Some people were spooked when it flew around for a few seconds. We were all mostly amused that a pigeon joined our commute though. I was wondering where it came from. Does it have a job on the night shift like me? Or maybe it hung out with its pigeon friends? Did it have a nice Sunday night romantic date? It wasn’t carrying a presto card, a wallet, or a phone. I think this pigeon is a fare evader. Luckily, I had never seen the fare police on that route so late at night. It is possible that the pigeon is smart enough to know how not to get caught by them. It knew how to get in the station and board the train. It stayed on for a couple stops, pecked on crumbs, shat on the floor, and exited at its stop. It sensed when the train slowed down and stood in front of the door at Bay station. Where was it going? Did it have a family or a partner waiting at home?

I almost didn’t meet this subway pigeon. I had to prepare myself to leave work after I clocked out instead of before. I ended up missing two buses that I could’ve been on had I been ready on time. I should’ve been home to my bed, my dog, and my girlfriend earlier. I would’ve gone on with my life never meeting this subway pigeon. Instead, I did. Now, I’m writing my first blog post about it. I have work again today so I wish I had more sleep last night. Instead, I wished this subway pigeon a good night and a good pigeon life.
